DALLAS – The St. Edward's University Athletics Media Relations staff was named the Scott Puryear SID Office of the Year by the Heartland Conference Friday at the league's annual meetings.
Â
Former Media Relations Coordinator Logan Lawrence and Media Relations Assistant Sam Boender spearheaded the Hilltoppers' award-winning efforts, under the supervision of Associate Athletics Director Jameson Adams, with the outside consult of Chris Yandle.
Â
"I couldn't be more proud of the work our sports information department has done this year," said St. Edward's Associate Vice President for Athletics Debbie Taylor. "Both Logan and Sam have always been willing to go the extra mile to ensure our student-athletes and institution have the opportunity to showcase their talents and skills, both on and off the field. The work that they do is an invaluable asset to both our department and our institution."
Â
The Hilltoppers have now claimed the Scott Puryear honor three times since the conference's founding in 1999. Lawrence claimed the award as a solo sports information director in 2008-09 and 2009-10.
Â
Over the past year, SEU Media Relations staffed and promoted 115 home athletics events. The duo of Lawrence and Boender also provided publicity for six NCAA Tournaments as men's and women's soccer, women's basketball, baseball, and men's and women's golf all advanced to the postseason.
Â
"Sam and Logan were dynamic in the way they told the story of the St. Edward's Athletics department and its student-athletes," said Associate Athletics Director Jameson Adams. "Their hard work does not go unnoticed on campus and throughout the Heartland Conference."
Â
The sports information staff also generated video content and digital graphics while managing all of the department's social media accounts. The 2016-17 season marked Lawrence's 11th, and final, year on the hilltop while Boender wrapped up his second year at St. Edward's.
Â
St. Edward's University Athletics Media Relations oversees all requests from media outlets for athletics administration, student-athletes, and staff. Those interested in covering the Hilltoppers should reach out to Sam Boender at sboender@stedwards.edu.
